A Note from Pastor Mike & Team SFD

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus! Whether you are a returning Vanguard student or attending VU for the first time, WELCOME! The Spiritual Formation Department (SFD for short) is ready to serve you as best we can as you experience college life at Vanguard!

Jesus said in Mark 12:30-31, "30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.

It is our desire to not just affirm, but live out what Jesus said: To love God and love people. If we all can do these two things, Jesus said we will be fulfilling all the spiritual (and therefore many natural) laws required of us. As we live in community together here at Vanguard, it is our desire to help facilitate Christian unity and character through our VU Chapels, Small Groups, Pastoral Care, Outreach and other Christian community initiatives . Whether you're far away from campus and doing everything online, commuting nearby or living on campus, it's our desire to encourage each other to follow Jesus' wisdom and love God and the people around us.

Please feel free to email SFD@Vanguard.edu with any questions you may have. We will do our best to upload Chapel credits into your Self Service online account on a weekly basis, but rest assured, all credit will be uploaded no later than the week of Finals.

We pray for you regularly and for the Jesus to continue to bless Vanguard and pour out a fresh move of His Holy Spirit upon us. May the Lord be near you and may He grant you and your family peace and health, in Jesus name.

Online Chapel experienceIn light of the ever changing landscape of life and society, our Spiritual Formation Department wanted to make sure our students had ongoing access to grow spiritually. Here is a list of online VU Chapel opportunities for students to continue to grow in Christ as they fulfill both their academic responsibilities and Chapel credit need. Each Online Chapel Experience credit form remains accessible for two weeks after the initial release date of the Online Chapel experience.

Pastoral Care

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30,

28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Recognizing that we all need encouragement, a listening ear, prayer and godly wisdom and guidance from time to time, Spiritual Formation is partnering with VU Faculty/Staff and local OC pastors to follow the way of Jesus in walking with those who are weary and in need of spiritual rest and guidance.

If you're a part of a local church, we encourage you to pursue spiritual direction from your church community and pastor. If you don't have a local church community you're plugged into, our VU Pastoral Care Team is here to help.

Check out the pastoral care page to review the available Pastoral Care Team members who are here to pray with you or use this link to schedule an appointment.
