A Note from Pastor Mike & Team SFD

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus! Whether you are a returning Vanguard student or attending VU for the first time, WELCOME! The Spiritual Formation Department (SFD for short) is ready to serve you as best we can as you enter this new semester of college life!

Jesus said in Mark 12:30-31, "30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.

It is our desire to not just affirm, but live out what Jesus said: To love God and love people. If we all can do these two things, Jesus said we will be fulfilling all the spiritual (and therefore many natural) laws required of us. As we begin this new semester at Vanguard, let's start new. Whether you're far away from campus and doing everything online, commuting nearby or living on campus, let's all do our best to follow Jesus' wisdom and love God and the people around us. It's not easy sometimes, but it's worth it all of the time!

As we move forward this Fall 2022 semester, our SFD Team felt it would be beneficial to provide a few passages of Scripture to encourage you:

Lastly, please feel free to email SFD@Vanguard.edu with any questions you may have. We will do our best to upload Chapel credits into your Self Service online account on a weekly basis, but rest assured, all credit will be uploaded by the second week of December 2022.

We literally pray for you and Vanguard on a daily basis. May the Lord be near you and may He grant you and your family peace and health, in Jesus name.

Pastoral Care In-Person or via Zoom

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30,

28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Recognizing that we all need encouragement, a listening ear, prayer and godly wisdom and guidance from time to time, Spiritual Formation is partnering with VU Faculty/Staff and local OC pastors to follow the way of Jesus in walking with those who are weary and in need of spiritual rest and guidance.

If you're a part of a local church, we encourage you to pursue spiritual direction from your church community and pastor. If you don't have a local church community you're plugged into, our VU Pastoral Care Team is here to help.

Check out the pastoral care page to review the available PastoralCare Team members who are here to pray with you or use this link to schedule an appointment. While we cannot meet every need and request, we will always do our best to try.
