SFD Online

Online Chapel experienceIn light of the ever changing landscape of life and society, our Spiritual Formation Department wanted to make sure our students had ongoing access to grow spiritually. Here is a list of online VU Chapel opportunities for students to continue to grow in Christ as they fulfill both their academic responsibilities and Chapel credit need.

These Full Credit Opportunities will have a convenient direct link to the Video Message within the video graphic. Just click on the graphic to go to the video. That said, MAKE SURE you click on the 2nd box/TITLE LINK to get to the actual online Chapel credit form to fill out in order to receive Chapel CREDIT. Also, please disregard any "due date" in the instructions of some of these online forms, as we will have each form open at minimum until April 3, 2020, and at the latest, May 1, 2020 at 11:45pm.

A Note From Pastor Mike Whitford

NEW Online VU Chapel Experience Theme - Are You?

When the Apostle John was quarantined on the Island of Patmos by the Romans in A.D. 95, he had an encounter with the Living Christ which propelled him to pen one of the most vivid writings in all of Scripture: the book of Revelation. While Revelation is undoubtedly chalked full of the prophetic, it is more about HOPE than anything else because it's all about Jesus and His dominion over all life and creation, yay even unseen pathogens.

Our current circumstances of quarantine life from the coronavirus reality will not result in the production of new revelation, nor should it. We have all the spiritual revelation we need of God and His character and plan of salvation in the Logos, the written Word. What we do need and should pray and hope for in this life of "forced solitude" is transformative encounters with the Living Christ through His Holy Spirit! It is from these encounters with the Living God where ancient revelation from the Word of God can come alive again in our hearts, just as God has done in generations from long ago!

My friends, do not take this opportunity to engage with Jesus and His Holy Spirit in new and fresh ways for granted. Currently there are thousands of opportunities to learn and grow in the knowledge of God via online church videos and podcasts. The resources are endless! We are not void of resource. We are however often void of simple peace, rooted in the One Who gives us HOPE: Jesus.

Over the remainder of this semester, it is our hope to encourage you in the Lord via Online VU Chapel Experiences. As we together unpacked our Spring 2020 Chapel theme of Sacrifice, our SFD Team felt it would be beneficial to shift gears and capture the moment in which we find ourselves. In our desire to encourage hope during a time when hope seems it is in short supply, we simply wanted to ask...
ARE YOU?Are you lacking hope in your current circumstances? Are you experiencing suffering in one form or another? Are you in need of peace? Are you anxious? Are you concerned with how your basic needs will be met?

The questions go on and on, but can also be answered with the same question: Are you depending on Jesus, our one and only Hope (Romans 5:5-8)? Are you choosing joy in the midst of suffering (Romans 5:1-4)? Are you seeking the only One Who can give you peace and remove your very real anxiety (Philippians 4:4-9)? Are you steadfast, immoveable and abounding in the work of the Lord (1 Corinthians 15:58)? Are you trusting in the Lord for all your needs to be met (Philippians 4:19)?

It is our hope and prayer that God will draw near to you as you draw near to Him during this time of quarantine (Hebrews 10:19-25). Our SFD Team is making it as easy as possible to help you along your journey. We are providing short, but full teachings with shortened online forms for you to fill out in order to gain Chapel Credit for each Online Chapel you experience with as little hassle as possible!

Most of the following Online Chapel Experiences can be obtained on your own time and when is most convenient for you. While all full credit Online Chapel Experiences will be available until Friday, May 1st, 2020 at 11:45pm, we encourage you to experience at least one Online Chapel and/or Online Written Devotion per day so that you're not cramming at the end. That would defeat the purpose of daily growth. All regularly scheduled Chapels will be hosted LIVE and/or posted at their regularly scheduled times, unless otherwise communicated via weekly SFD emails.

Lastly, please feel free to email SFD@Vanguard.edu with any questions you may have. We will do our best to upload Chapel credits into your MyVU account on a weekly basis, but rest assured, all credit will be uploaded by the first week of May.

We literally pray for you and Vanguard on a daily basis. May the Lord be near you and may He grant you and your family peace and health, in Jesus name.

Pastoral Care via Zoom

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30,

28“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Recognizing that we all need encouragement, a listening ear, prayer and godly wisdom and guidance from time to time, Spiritual Formation is partnering with VU Faculty/Staff and local OC pastors to follow the way of Jesus in walking with those who are weary and in need of spiritual rest and guidance.

If you're a part of a local church, we encourage you to pursue spiritual direction from your church community and pastor. If you don't have a local church community you're plugged into, our VU Pastoral Care Team is here to help.

Check out the pastoral care page to review the available PastoralCare Team members who are here to pray with you or use this link to schedule an appointment. While we cannot meet every need and request, we will always do our best to try.

You Got This!
