Campus Hazing Act
HAZING PREVENTION AT VANGUARD UNIVERSITY
The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA), signed into law by President Biden on December 23, 2024, amends the Jeanne Clery Act (now renamed to the Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act) to enhance transparency, accountability, and prevention of hazing in higher education institutions.
The Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA) introduces the first federal definitions of hazing and student organizations, ensuring that higher education institutions report hazing incidents in their annual Clery Reports. These federal definitions take precedence over state laws, requiring institutions to comply with the broader federal standards.
Vanguard University Office of Student Development in conjunction with Campus Safety is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus environment. We provide education, prevention strategies, and support services for all student groups including, student organizations, club sports, other student communities.
Vanguard University has a zero-tolerance stance on hazing by any student or group. All students and organizations – regardless of recognition status – must comply with Federal, Regional, State, and local laws as well as the university’s anti-hazing and harassment policies. All university employees and students are responsible for understanding and enforcing these standards.
