- Cynthia (Larson) Frenn '86 - Distinguished Service

For more than 20 years, April has worked at tech companies at the intersection of corporate development, strategy and finance.
In her current role at Microsoft, April leads the finance team supporting the Intellectual Property Group. She is responsible for strategic and long term planning, management of IP acquisitions, equity investments and licensing deals, and controllership across the IPG team.
Prior to Microsoft, April managed Mergers and Acquisitions teams at Applied Materials and Sybase where she led the deal teams resulting in $11 billion in corporate M&A. April’s move to M&A was preceded by an 11-year Corporate Finance consulting career at Ernst & Young. One of her favorite career moves was also her shortest, a 9 month secondment to a tech startup in Buenos Aires where she had the opportunity to build the startup’s business model and write their business plan, all while attempting to learn enough Spanish to minimize embarrassing moments at grocery stores and on buses!
April graduated with a BA in Finance from Vanguard University in 1994 and an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in 1999. As a first-generation college grad in her family, April credits her time at Vanguard with helping her to think critically and for giving her an early leadership opportunity as an RA her Junior year.
On a personal level, April lives in Seattle WA with her tech entrepreneur husband Shakil Haroon, their daughter Juliette and three grown stepsons. As a family, they love to hike, ski, and travel to warmer, sunnier climates whenever possible.

Prior to Lionsgate, Aly was the Digital Producer at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, overseeing and cultivating Ellen’s massive Digital Network including websites, social media, apps, and on-air broadcast/digital integrations, where her work earned her Emmy Award wins for three consecutive years in the “New Approaches to a Daytime Series or Talkshow” category. Since graduating from Vanguard, Aly has remained an active member of the campus community, most recently serving as a Peer Mentor for undergrad Communications students. When she is not working, she is resuming her never-ending hunt for the best tacos in all of LA.
