Meet the JMC Director

Celina Canales

Celina Canales serves in dual leadership roles at Vanguard University, directing the Jesse Miranda Center (JMC) and leading University Engagement. With a deep commitment to the JMC mission, she focuses on equipping the Vanguard community to lead with cultural clarity—empowering the campus, church, and surrounding community within a Hispanic context. As a licensed minister with the Assemblies of God, Celina is honored to guide students through holistic spiritual and personal formation.

As Director of University Engagement, Celina manages signature university milestones, including the VU Together series, Convocation, Baccalaureate, and Commencement. She ensures these gatherings reflect Vanguard’s spirit-filled culture and commitment to excellence. Additionally, she advances women in leadership through her active role on the Leading with Integrity, Faith, and Trust (LIFT) Committee.

Celina began her tenure at Vanguard in 2015 as the Director of Academic Operations in the Office of the Provost. An alumna of Vanguard University, she earned her BA in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Business Organizational Leadership. She brings over 23 years of nonprofit management experience to her work. Celina and her husband, Johnny, reside in Costa Mesa with their two children, Cienna (6) and Caleb (4).
