GI Bill® benefits help you pay for college, graduate school, and training programs. Since 1944, the GI Bill® has helped qualifying Veterans and their family members get money to cover all or some of the costs for school or training. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has put together a guide to help you apply for VA Education Benefits which include the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, the Montgomery GI Bill®, and other educational assistance programs, on-the-job training, and career counseling. The Post 9/11 GI Bill® allows Service members to transfer unused education benefits to immediate family members.  This applies to offer or enlisted, active duty and Selected Reserve.  Qualifying immediate family members are spouses and children. The Service member must have at least six years of service and commit to an additional four years in order to transfer benefits. This policy is set by the Department of Defense because this benefit impacts recruiting and retention. Click here for more information. Additional information can be found here.

The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program®, or Yellow Ribbon Program, is part of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows U.S. institutions of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). These degree-granting institutions partner with VA to cover tuition and fee expenses that exceed VA’s maximum payable amount. Schools can contribute a specified dollar amount. VA will match the amount, not to exceed 50 percent of the difference. Vanguard University is a Yellow Ribbon Program participant. Click here for more information.

The Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship provides Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits to the children and surviving spouses of Service members who died in the line of duty while on active duty after September 10, 2001. Eligible beneficiaries attending school may receive up to 36 months of benefits at the 100 percent level. Click here for more information. 

The Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship is a provision of the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act (Forever GI Bill) that gives extra benefits to students training in the high demand fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Training in these areas typically requires more credit hours than other fields. The Rogers STEM Scholarship provides support for this additional training, offering students the opportunity to finish their STEM degree program or teaching certification with significantly less student debt or out-of-pocket costs.
