Baccalaureate Service
About baccalaureate
Each year, the Vanguard community gathers to celebrate the faithfulness of God and to honor the graduating students with the Baccalaureate Service. The baccalaureate tradition originated in medieval universities from which students were bid farewell with a sermon. Vanguard University honors this rich tradition through music, Scripture readings and a message brought by a student-selected speaker. The service culminates in the celebration of Holy Communion and the investiture of the graduating class. Students participate in a processional in caps and gowns. Family members are welcome to attend.
*Baccalaureate is open to all graduates from the Traditional Undergraduate College and School for Professional Studies. Family and friends of the graduates are also welcome to attend.

WHICH OFFICES DO I HAVE TO BE CLEARED WITH IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES?
You must be approved through both the Registrar’s Office and the Office of Accounting Operations in order to participate in Commencement as well as pick up your cap and gown at either Grad Fest or from the Bookstore. If you have received and “on target” notice from the Registrar’s Office, you have received approval so no additional paperwork is needed. To be approved through the Office of Accounting Operations, your student account must be paid in full. If you have received a Perkins loan, you must also complete and exit interview. After these are complete, you are clear to pick up your regalia. Students must be on target by March 23th to prevent issues with participating in Commencement.
MY NAME AND/OR ADDRESS IS INCORRECT. WHAT DO I DO?
If you want your name to be different on your diploma than your legal name, email the Office of the Registrar.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM WALKING WITH HONORS?
For the program: If you have completed at least 36 Undergraduate/Professional Studies units at Vanguard by the end of the fall semester and have a cumulative GPA in one of the levels below, your name will be listed in the Commencement Program with honors:

Magna cum laude – 3.70-3.899
Summa cum laude – 3.90-4.0
For your diploma and transcript, you must have completed at least 45 Undergraduate/Professional Studies units at Vanguard by the end of your last semester and have a final GPA in one of the above levels.

Only Undergraduate/Professional Studies students who have a GPA of 3.9 or higher and have completed at least 36 units at Vanguard by the end of the Fall 2017 semester will be given honor cords to wear at Commencement. The cords can be picked up at the Registrar check-in table 1 hour before the ceremony starts.
