Professor Kerry Moore is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience working with older adults, homeless individuals, adolescents impacted by the foster care system, and people facing terminal illness. Professor Moore has taught at Vanguard since 2005 and especially enjoys classes that focus integration of faith with psychology and the practical realities of working in social service settings. 

Professor Moore serves as Chair for Undergraduate Psychology, helping to lead and grow the department in areas related to student support, curricular review, and program assessment.  

Dr. Dulin brings decades of experience and an enthusiasm for research to Vanguard. 

She strives to help students gain a passion for the research process. Each year, she collaborates with a small group of students to design, implement, and present the results of a research study.

Dr. Dulin also enjoys teaching statistics, developmental psychology, and adolescent psychology. She finds joy in helping students to acquire skills that they can apply throughout their lives.

Her commitment to Christ is at the forefront of her teaching, and she aims to help students integrate their faith and learning to better serve His kingdom.

Dr. Dulin also serves as the faculty advisor to Vanguard’s chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society in psychology. Vanguard’s chapter helps to support the mission of Psi Chi by better enabling students to understand the science and application of psychology. 

Lastly, Dr. Dulin serves as a mentor to students both as they navigate Vanguard’s psychology program, and as they prepare for careers and graduate school.

Dr. Karen J Hummel (known to her students and colleagues as “KJ”) is a licensed clinical psychologist, a psychology professor, and a spiritual director who has taught, guided, and accompanied others for more than two decades. 

Dr. KJ is passionate about identity formation and helping others comprehend themselves in the light of God’s love. She enjoys all areas of Clinical Psychology and focuses intensely on Positive Psychology, educating others about how to increase well-being and make an already good life even better. 

Dr. KJ feels privileged to have the opportunity to combine her experience as educator, psychologist, and spiritual director in her teaching and clinical practices, and she is honored to participate in the college experience of her beloved Vanguard students.

Dr. Renold has been teaching in the department of psychology at Vanguard since 2006. He has a doctorate in Gerontology from USC and an MACLP from Pepperdine University. He is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist and is active in the community giving presentations on autism, aging and caregiving. He has also served as a consulting program evaluator for a project providing caregiver training for families in south Orange County.

Vanguard has been a wonderful place to work and grow. It is unique in that faith is cultivated, students are challenged and lives are changed.

Dr. Kuhle is a VU alumnus and earned her doctorate in Experimental Psychology & Behavioral Neuroscience at Texas Christian University. Her research focuses on nutritional prevention/intervention strategies for Alzheimer’s disease. 

Dr. Kuhle has an extremely diverse skillset due to her comprehensive education in the fields of psychology, biology, and neuroscience. Throughout her research, she has found that the Mediterranean diet protects against memory impairment and Alzheimer’s disease pathologies compared to the typical American diet. She will continue to explore this topic with her research students in her lab, The Nutritional and Behavioral Neuroscience Laboratory. Dr. Kuhle has mentored over thirty students in research, and teaching scientific techniques to budding, young scientists is her greatest passion.

Dr. Kuhle will utilize her expertise to teach a new course, nutritional neuroscience, which will primarily focus on the effects of nutrition on the brain, neurodegenerative disease susceptibility, and the management of psychiatric disorders. 

With 15 years of clinical experience Dr. Burton brings a depth of knowledge and experience to her teaching. Before becoming a college professor, she worked as a community mental health provider, providing services to diverse populations presenting with a variety of mental health conditions. Her clinical work includes trauma-focus, dual diagnosis, crisis intervention, assessment, and child-welfare. 

She enjoys being part of the Vanguard community and loves meeting and mentoring new students. Dr. Burton finds great joy in collaborating with student clubs on campus and is excited to continue mentoring the psychology department’s student leadership council. 

Kevin Qualls has a passion for the integration of faith, education, and praxis.  He has many years of experience in professional counseling, Christian higher education, and church ministry contexts and seeks to apply this depth of knowledge in the classroom to engage students with a highly dynamic and integrative learning environment.  

Professionally, Professor Qualls has worked extensively in social services and as a Licensed Professional Counselor.  His area of expertise has been in issues related to child abuse and neglect as well as parent and relationship counseling and education.  

Academically, he has taught at several universities across the country and has had the pleasure of engaging in a wide variety of courses related to his field.  He has a passion for psychological science and believes strongly that effective clinical practice originates from the pursuit of valid research.    

Professor Qualls is married to a wonderful wife named Joy and has two great kids.  He is active in his community, serving in leadership roles on several local organizations.  In all, he desires to inspire the next generation of students to become transformational positive influences in the world.
