Dr. Wang received his PhD in Astrophysics from Fudan University, one of the top five universities in China. He has considerable experience in teaching activities at an international level and is capable of working effectively with a diverse student population. 

He has taught various undergraduate and graduate courses in Physics and Astronomy. He has supervised 16 Postdocs, 12 Ph.D students, 9 M.S. students and over 20 undergraduate senior theses. He recently joined Vanguard University with a desire to create a type of atmosphere to help students develop their interests, pursue their goals, and meet their full potential. He is collaborating with members in VU to excel in teaching to inspire and educate students for the 21st century.

Dr. Wang’s research interests span a wide range in the fields of gravity and its applications to astrophysics and cosmology. He has published more than 200 papers in prestigious and high impact journals, including Nature Astronomy, Reports on Progress in Physics, Physical Review Letters. He was selected by Stanford as one of the World’s Top 2% Scientists. 

Dr. Lorance earned his Bachelor’s degree from Vanguard University (then Southern California College) and then his doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Arizona where he was an NSF Graduate Fellow. He worked for two years as a post-doctoral fellow at Arizona State University. 

He has published 25 articles in the field of organic reaction mechanisms specializing in electronic structure and computational predictions of reaction pathways. Dr. Lorance had an amazing experience as a student at VU and wanted to return and provide that experience to new generations of students. 

Dr. Sturdivant has more than 30 years of experience in engineering and applied physics. His specialties are electromagnetics and systems engineering.

He has authored several engineering books including his most recent called Systems Engineering of Phased Arrays and has published dozens of peer reviewed journal and conference papers. He has been awarded seven U.S. patents. He is a member of the engineering honor societies Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu, and is a senior member of the IEEE.

He started his career at Hughes Aircraft Company where he received a fellowship to study at UCLA and was awarded the Engineering Excellence Award for innovations related to next generation radar hardware.  He has been involved with several technology start-ups as CTO and other roles.

Dr. Sturdivant is excited to be at Vanguard University to train students to be excellent scientists and engineers, but most of all to guide students to be more like Jesus. 

Dr. Mood received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with a minor in biblical studies from Biola University. He went on to earn his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of California, Irvine. His research emphasized the synthesis of antifungal molecules as well as computational and machine learning approaches for chemical reactivity.

After finishing his doctorate, Dr. Mood completed a 1-year teaching postdoctoral teaching fellowship at Vanguard University. He is currently an assistant professor of chemistry at Vanguard University. Dr. Mood came to Vanguard University specifically because he is passionate about teaching chemistry to undergraduate students and seeing them succeed.

Sarah developed her love of mathematics early on, deciding at the age of seven to become a math teacher.  She attended Costa Mesa High School, where her love of the subject grew until heading off to college to become a pure math major. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UC Irvine in 2004 and went on to earn her master's in mathematics from Cal State Fullerton in 2009.

Sarah began teaching at Vanguard University in the fall of 2012. She enjoys the energetic students and supportive faculty of Vanguard and deepening her walk with Christ alongside the spirit-filled community. 

With a diverse range of knowledge within the world of environmental science, Prof Schaeffler is qualified to teach such related courses at Vanguard University. She has a heart for people, for wildlife, and for inspiring students to learn how to be responsible stewards of God’s creation.  As the CEO of a conservation and animal rescue nonprofit, she also has a depth of experience in project management, internship guidance, and community outreach. She is teaching at Vanguard because she loves the students and enjoy being on a campus where she can also preach the Word of God within lectures.

Tom taught Math and Music for 10 years at various Junior High/High Schools in LA and Orange Counties; 18 years teaching Mathematics at APU; 15 years teaching Mathematics at Vanguard University. 

Both of his university teaching assignments were due to networking connections through SCC/VU: an alumna of SCC (and daughter of Tom’s SCC US History professor) recommended him for a mathematics position at APU in 1995, while his former music theory professor at SCC suggested he apply for a mathematics position to VU in 2008. You never realize how important your connections with professors and fellow alumni can be until you need them!  

Dr. Chris Woods is an Assistant Professor in the Chemistry Department. He earned his doctorate in Chemistry at UC Irvine, working under Professor Don Blake on the atmospheric chemistry of non-methane hydrocarbons and other volatile organic compounds. His graduate work includes several NASA field research campaigns, with emphasis on the Atmosphere Tomography Mission (ATom) and the Student Airborne Research Program (SARP) where he studied the combined effects of natural and anthropogenic emissions on air quality. 

After his graduate work, Dr. Woods served as a postdoctoral teaching scholar at Vanguard University through the iPREP fellowship, where he continued the development of his expertise in chemical education. He strives to continue the longstanding tradition of excellent chemistry education at Vanguard. And, in doing so, equip students for dynamic careers in STEM fields. 

Dr. Woods also serves as a Co-Coordinator of the Supplemental Instruction program in partnership with the Academic Resource Center.
