Dr. Wilson has a B.A. in English from Vanguard and a PhD in History from UCLA.  He teaches courses on China's and America's history, and his research interests center on the relationship between these two countries--in particular how the U.S. has attempted to influence China's political development.  

Dr. Wilson joined the Vanguard faculty full time in 1998.  He served as Associate Provost and Dean of the College from 2010 to 2023 and is currently the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, with more than 1300 students, 70 faculty and staff, 20 degree programs, and 90 honors students.  Over the years Dr. Wilson has led teams of Vanguard students to tour and teach English in China.

Dr. Wilson resides in Lake Forest with his wife, Diane (Sanchez) Wilson, a VU alumna who taught kindergarten in Norwalk, California for 37 years before retiring to care for their grandchildren.  The Wilsons have four children, all of whom have earned bachelor's degrees from Vanguard University.  

Dr. Jimenez received his doctorate in Church History (Fuller Theological Seminary) providing him with the tools to integrate the Christian faith with history in the classroom. Ever since he read Dostoevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment, he knew he wanted to teach great books for a living. His research and publications illustrate his interdisciplinary focus on Christian faith, literature, and history. Dr. Jimenez' dissertation examined the way Swiss theologian Karl Barth wrote his history of the Enlightenment period. His recent work has focused on the Christian alliances formed with Cesar Chavez and the UFW.

He teaches lower and upper division courses focusing on political philosophy, religious thought, and world history, including topical classes on European, Latino/a, and Latin American history. Dr. Jimenez serves as the faculty advisor for Clio & Cicero, the History & Political Science Department Academic Journal.

Dr. Kang received her doctorate in Politics and International Relations from the University of Southern California (USC).  She also got her master's degree in International Studies and diplomacy from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS).

Dr. Kang loves teaching politics at a Christian university because it allows her to instill a sense of purpose and service, emphasizing the importance and the value of faith and religion in politics.  She enjoys guiding students in their journey to see how their beliefs can inform and shape  politics and mentor students who want to pursue a career in public service.

She teaches lower and upper division courses focusing on American Democracy, Comparative Politics, Immigration: Global Perspectives, Mass Media and American Politics, International Relations, and International Politics. She serves as the faculty advisor for Pi Sigma Alpha, the Political Science Honors Society, and the Vanguard Political Awareness Club, a student organization that discusses contemporary political issues.

Dr. J earned his PhD in Political Science from Claremont Graduate University, specializing in American politics and political philosophy. His research integrates politics, law, philosophy, and theology to explore the evolving boundary between church and state. 

His work examines how Christian cause-lawyers, pastors, and congregations interact with the Internal Revenue Service and other institutions. At the same time, probing the philosophical interplay of moral knowledge, reason, and revelation. Using a mixed-methods approach – content analysis of sermons, time-series analysis, interviews, and legal-historical research – he examines how and why partisan politicking persists despite legal constraints. 

Dr. J teaches American Democracy, Constitutional Law, U.S. History, Campaigns and Elections, Comparative Political Thought, and U.S. Presidents and the Presidency. Prior to joining Vanguard, he spent nearly a decade as a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Los Angeles. He continues to teach in the Rising Scholars Program at the California Institution for Men and the California Institution for Women.
