WHAT DOES IT COST TO ATTEND VANGUARD UNIVERSITY?

The Cost of Attendance (COA) is made up of direct and indirect costs, and is based on average costs for traditional undergraduate students.

Direct Costs

Direct costs include tuition and fees, and on-campus room and board. You will receive a billing statement for these expenses and make payments directly to Vanguard University. The table below contains average expenses; you will receive a billing statement from the Office of Accounting Operations for actual costs.

2018/19 Traditional Undergraduate Estimated Direct Costs:

Fall 2018Spring 2019
Tuition & Student Services Fee*$16,860$16,860
On-campus Room & Board**$9,980$9,980

*The tuition and student services fee component of the cost of attendance does not include course fees, lab fees, private lesson fees, study abroad or special trip costs, or tuition for enrollment that exceeds 18 units per semester.

**Actual room expenses will vary each semester based on your housing assignment; board is based on 15 meals/week and will vary based on the actual meal plan you select.

These are school related expenses incurred by you while you are a student at Vanguard University, but not paid to the University. Indirect costs include books and supplies, transportation, personal expenses and off-campus board. Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is generated by the information you submit on your FAFSA. All of the data you enter on the FAFSA is analyzed by a complex formula (called Federal Methodology) to determine your EFC. The EFC is a measure of how much you (and your family) can be expected to contribute to your cost of attendance for the year, and helps determine your eligibility for need-based financial aid.

Financial Need

Financial need is defined by federal financial aid regulations using the formula below. PELL grants, Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Federal Direct Subsidized Loans, Perkins Loans, Federal Work Study, Cal Grants and some other scholarships and grants require you to demonstrate financial need in order to qualify.

COA – EFC = Financial Need

Types of Financial Aid

The Financial Aid Office assists students in meeting their educational expenses through various types of financial aid programs:

  • Institutional Aid: Financial aid offered by Vanguard University such as Academic Scholarships, Vanguard Need Grant and Talent Scholarships.
  • Need-Based Aid: Aid that requires demonstrated need to qualify such as PELL Grants, SEOG, Federal Work Study, Perkins Loans, Cal Grant and Federal Direct Subsidized Loans.
  • Non-Need Based Aid: Aid that does not require demonstrated need such as Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Parent and Graduate PLUS Loans, and Private Loans.
