VISA: Costa Rica is a semester long study abroad program run through the religion department. Intercultural studies are best accomplished when the student has the opportunity to study in the context of another culture. The religion department with the emphasis of intercultural and missions studies developed this program to enhance the theoretical portion of learning which is undertaken on campus. In partnership with the Assemblies of God World Missions, students will engage in education and ministry that allows first-hand experience of cross-cultural theory and practice.
While run through the religion department, this program is open to all Vanguard students. Over the three months in country, students can complete up to 15 units for academic credit. Based in San Juan, Costa Rica, students will live at both the local language school, CINCEL, and in a home-stay with a Costa Rican family. Students will be enrolled in courses that include conversational Spanish (all levels available), practicum placement, and intercultural studies. Students outside of the religion department can discuss alternative options for courses with their department and the Office of Global Education and Outreach.
