Kinesiology Minors
The Department of Kinesiology currently offers a general minor in Kinesiology and a minor in Coaching.
Minor in Coaching
The Coaching Minor is available to undergraduate students in any major aspiring to coach children, adolescents or adults in athletic settings on a volunteer or supplemental basis. The minor will to help potential coaches to develop effective organizational, motivational and teaching strategies to guide successful programs.
Students will have the opportunity to develop essential coaching and performance skills as well as requisite knowledge in related areas including athletic training, sport science, and sport management. Coaching minors ultimately apply their knowledge and skills in a coaching internship at the conclusion of the program.
The coaching minor meets or exceeds the American Society of Health and Physical Educators, (SHAPE) National Standards for Sport Coaches and will provide CIF coaching education certification. The program emphasizes coaching and administrative theory, psychology, medical and nutritional concerns, risk management, and skill development.
Minor in Kinesiology
The minor in Kinesiology may be of interest to students preparing for careers in sport, exercise and allied health-related professions, as well as those with a personal interest in this multidisciplinary field. The minor advances the understanding and practice of human movement across the lifespan and develops skills and knowledge leading to lifelong enjoyment of physical activity, health and well-being. The minor consists of 21 units.
