Biological Sciences
Advance Medical Research with a Degree in Biology and a Concentration in Neurobiology
With a unique emphasis on the nervous system, the BS in Biology with a concentration in Neurobiology will teach you how to apply cellular, molecular, systems and behavioral analyses to learn and understand more about the function of the human brain.
Neurobiology is multidisciplinary field that combines principles from biology, psychology, physics, and computer science to understand the complex mechanisms underlying nervous system function. This is especially helpful to address problems relating to neurodegenerative diseases and neurological dysfunction.
Specialized Curriculum
You will develop a fundamental understanding of neuroanatomy, neurophysiology and neuropharmacology through brain dissections, lab exercises and simulations. You will discover how cellular mechanisms are responsible for learning and memory, and how this information enhances learning. Classes in this concentration include Neuroscience, Research Methods in Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology, Neurobiology of Learning & Memory.
Practical Research Opportunities
Hands-on experimentation helps you to develop analytical and critical thinking skills. Working with faculty mentors, you can focus on the area of neurodegeneration and use animal models of Parkinson’s disease and addiction. This experience will help you gain valuable skills necessary to pursue graduate school or work in pharmaceutical labs.
