BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) Pre-Licensure

The BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) Pre-Licensure program is for freshman and transfer students who need to complete prerequisite courses or may be ready to apply to the Nursing major but are not licensed nurses. Following completion of the bachelor's program, these students are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed nurses.

 

RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)

This program is for licensed nurses or students currently enrolled in an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) dual enrollment program at another institution who seek to complete a bachelor’s degree. Beginning fall 2019, this program will be offered in two formats: on campus or online.

 

MSN (Master of Science in Nursing)

This program is for registered nurses with a bachelor’s degree who seek to complete a master’s degree.

Tara K. Amendola, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, emphasis on Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF). Tara earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing, emphasis on Nursing Education from California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is a Registered Nurse and holds a Public Health Nurse Certificate. Tara has over nine years clinical experience at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach and St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton as a Cardiac Critical Care and Post-Anesthesia Care Nurse, recently being promoted to Relief Charge Nurse. As a Nursing Educator, Tara taught as a Critical Care Nurse Hospital Educator for two years at Hoag Hospital and three semesters as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty for Intermediate Medical Surgical Rotation at CSUF. She is a Certified Trainer for EPIC, the new electronic charting system for Providence-St. Joseph’s Healthcare System. Currently, she is an Adjunct Professor for Critical Care Nursing at Vanguard University. As a leader, Tara served as the Co-Chair for the Code Blue Committee as well as authored a document for Magnet Certification at Hoag Hospital. She is a loving wife and mother with a passion for teaching and mentoring.

Biography:

Dr. Callis is a Clinical Nurse Specialist and End of Life Nursing Education Consortium Educator, specializing in Critical Care. She has longstanding experience as a professor and simulation expert, instrumental in spearheading patient simulation technology in nursing education. Dr. Callis has several publications on End of Life Care (EOLC) related to advance directives, spiritual beliefs, empowering families in EOLC decisions and the effect of technology on the dying experience.

Dr. Callis has published research related to moral distress and empowerment in critical care nurses in the American Journal of Critical Care. Her current research focus is on nurse well-being related to Care Programs for nurses, in particular Tea for the Soul, a hospital-based program addressing the emotional needs of nurses related to bereavement and stressful/traumatic workplace experiences.

Dr. Callis’ primary teaching interest is graduate student research. As thesis advisor, Dr. Callis mentors MSN students conducting research, endeavoring to improve patient care outcomes and the quality of nursing practice.

Michelle Cavalieri earned her Associates Degree in Nursing from Long Beach City College. She decided soon after she graduated that it was necessary to obtain her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. Michelle is an alumni of Vanguard University. She obtained both her BSN and MSN from Vanguard. Michelle has nearly a decade of nursing experience. Her specialties include Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Orthopedics and Emergency nursing. Michelle accepted a position as Associate Professor in the baccalaureate prelicensure program at Vanguard in 2019. She teaches in multiple courses throughout the prelicensure program such as Fundamentals, Med/Surg and Critical Care

Dr. David P. Colachico, has served as an Adjunct Faculty member of the Nursing Department since 2015. Dr. Colachico earned his BS degree from Johnson State College (Johnson, Vermont) and MEd from the University of Vermont. He earned his PhD degree from Texas A&M University (College Station, TX). Dr. Colachico has many years of experience teaching in the K-12 public school systems with most of those years being in Special Education.He has served as an Assistant Superintendent and as a Director of Special Education programs in Vermont before moving to California.Dr. Colachico has over 25 years of experience teaching in higher education. He is a legal consultant with a NYC law firm fighting for the rights of children with special needs who are underserved in foreign educational settings. Dr. Colachico is the author of many articles and book chapters related to various topics associated with Teacher Education.He is proud to serve the Vanguard University community and strives to honor God through all he does as well as through his dedication to the faculty and students of VU.
