The Office of Grants, Research, and Sponsored Programs (GRASP) is pleased to announce that Vanguard University has been selected by the state of California to participate in the #CaliforniansForAll College Corps program. Through this initiative, 45 colleges and universities in California will be part of a new public service program that will subsidize tuition for students who do community service alongside their studies. Vanguard, Concordia University-Irvine, and Irvine Valley College submitted a joint grant application to the state and constitute a consortium dedicated to serving Orange County. Vanguard is one of only four private universities in California participating in this initiative.
The Californians For All College Corps program will start in Fall 2022 with 6,500 students statewide deployed to part-time work in areas in need, such as K-12 education disparities, climate change, and food insecurity. In exchange for completing 450 hours of service, each student will receive $10,000 toward their education.
Under this competitively awarded grant, Vanguard will receive approximately $300,000 for planning and development and is eligible to receive an additional $1 million over the course of two years, depending on student participation and outcomes.
More information will be released in the coming weeks on how students and Vanguard community members can participate. In the meantime, we are thrilled to have been selected for this unique program that aligns with our mission of equipping “each student for a Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service” and look forward to supporting our students and the local community.
