Vanguard University is a Christian higher education institution seeking to pursue knowledge, cultivate character, deepen faith, and equip each student for a Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service. In alignment with this mission, we always have been, and will remain, forever committed to pro-life beliefs. This commitment is fundamental to the resolution of a recent situation regarding a student club.
Vanguard’s Student Clubs and Organizations policy allows students the opportunity to form academic, service, and social clubs to develop leadership skills and cultivate their character within the context of Christian community, ultimately making a positive impact across our campus and in their careers and lives beyond their university experience.
To advance our educational mission within the context of Christian community, our university policy does not permit campus clubs affiliated with political advocacy initiatives. Instead, we encourage students to engage in respectful conversations through campus-wide events and at the individual level.
Recently, a student submitted a request to form a chapter of the national Students for Life (SFL) organization, which was not in alignment with the university policy because SFL is a national organization that engages in political advocacy. Because this was outside the policy requirements for a campus club, Vanguard and the student collaborated on an alternative option to form an independent service club that champions the unborn and supports women who are choosing to have children. We are thrilled that the VU Lions Love Life Club has been established as a result.
Vanguard University completely affirms the value of human life and supports student efforts to help women and babies in need. As always, the University aims to provide a quality educational experience marked by the pursuit of truth, the cultivation of virtue, and the desire for service.
