VANGUARD UNIVERSITY EARNS EIGHT-YEAR WSCUC ACCREDITATION

Reaffirmation of Accreditation from WASC Senior College and University Commission
is Evidence of Institutional Quality, Effectiveness and Integrity

COSTA MESA, Calif., July 10, 2017 – Accredited continuously since 1964, Vanguard University has been granted reaffirmation of accreditation for eight years by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). Vanguard University was founded in 1920 in Los Angeles and became the first four-year college in Orange County in 1950 when the institution relocated to Costa Mesa.

“Every reaffirmation cycle represents a coordinated effort by all in our community to demonstrate our alignment with WSCUC’s standards, which assess the academic quality and educational effectiveness of institutions,” said Michael J. Beals, Ph.D., president, Vanguard University. “Through collaborative, transparent and data-driven responses, we continue to demonstrate the value we provide our students.”

In handing down the reaffirmation of its accreditation, WSCUC specified commendations as well as recommendations. In addition to commending Vanguard University for its ‘clearly articulated and aligned mission, vision, and values in support of student success,’ the Commission also pinpointed that Vanguard University’s strategic-planning process is enabling the institution to anticipate changes in higher education in the coming decade and noted Vanguard University’s overall student retention rate.

“We invest substantial resources and energy into educating a diverse community of scholars who are poised to change the world,” Beals said. “Our programs are helping first-generation students and U.S. military veterans advance toward graduation. Our federal designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), one of only three universities in Orange County, paved the way for Vanguard to win a five-year, $2.57 million grant for student and faculty initiatives.”

A copy of the WSCUC letter is available on the Vanguard University and WSCUC websites.
