September: National Hispanic Heritage Month

The University Community Care Council invites you to join us as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15). Please watch this short video to learn more about Hispanic Heritage Month.

Last week, we also celebrated National Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Week. Vanguard University first achieved HSI designation in 2015, when our Hispanic student population surpassed 25%. Since then, our Hispanic enrollment has flourished. According to the most recent available data, 48.9% of our traditional undergraduates identify as Hispanic—nearly double the threshold. Our Professional Education and Graduate programs exceed the mark as well, with 34.8% and 29.8%, respectively. We embrace this designation as we strive not only to be a Hispanic-serving institution, but also a Hispanic-thriving and Hispanic-graduating University. This is our goal for every student constituency within our community, that they will all be served well, thrive while with us, and graduate fully ready to embrace their futures.

One of the most impactful ways the university supports Hispanic students is through the Jesse Miranda Center (JMC), named in honor of Pentecostal pioneer Dr. Jesse Miranda. The JMC exists to educate, equip, and empower leaders across three vital domains:

  • Campus – cultivating student success through leadership, mentorship, and retention initiatives.
  • Church – strengthening faith-based leadership and engagement.
  • Community – empowering local leaders to drive meaningful change.

Explore the refreshed JMC webpage and watch this short promo video to learn more. Keep an eye out for a biographical film about the life of Dr. Jesse Miranda, which is in production and soon to be released!
