Susan is originally from Cerritos, CA. She graduated from Biola University in 2006 with a B.A. in Psychology and a minor in Biblical Studies and is currently pursuing a M.A. in Leadership Studies at Vanguard. Upon graduation, she worked at various non-profit organizations serving youth. She began working at Vanguard in December 2007 as an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor and has served in various capacities within Enrollment Management as well as serving a year in Student Life. Susan has a strong passion for helping studies and families navigate the college admissions process and greatly enjoys seeing students thrive as leaders in the Vanguard community. In her free time, Susan enjoys traveling, listening to NPR, and spending time with her nephews, niece and Labrador, Abby.

Jason is originally from Ontario, CA and graduated from Vanguard University with a B.A. in History & Political Science and is currently pursuing his M.A. in Management at University of Redlands. As a student at Vanguard, he served as a Frontline Orientation Leader, Huntington Hall Resident Assistant (RA), worked as a Tele-counselor and Intern in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. He is married to his best friend Lauren and they both enjoy hanging out with family and friends, traveling to the most tropical places, eating sushi, mentoring high school students and teaching hip-hop.

Jasmine Villa-Stofko is originally from Santa Ana, CA. She earned her B.A. at California State University-Fullerton in Communications, and later attended graduate school at the University of San Diego in 2011 where she earned a M.A. in Leadership Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education. While at USD, she also received a graduate certificate in Pastoral Care and Counseling. A few of her favorite college memories include volunteering as a translator at a medical clinic in Mexico and living on campus as a Resident Minister at USD. Jasmine began working in admissions in 2012 at a private high school in Orange County before joining Vanguard in 2014. Jasmine is excited to help students meet their potential and achieve their goals. She loves snorkeling, Netflix, and trying new foods.

Jonathan is originally from Barstow, CA but lived in San Diego, CA for the majority of his life. He graduated from Vanguard University in 2014 with a B.A. in History/Political Science. While a student at Vanguard, he as was involved in Concert Choir, served as a Student Chaplain for two years and was the Executive Vice-President of Student Government Association. Jonathan will leap at the opportunity to travel, whether in-state or around the world. He enjoys all things related to sports and music. In his spare time, you will find him laughing hysterically with friends and family or working on spoken word poetry.
Jonathan works with freshmen from Riverside County and all counties in the Central Coast (Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura), Central Valley (Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Kern, Kings, Tulare, Tuolumne), and High Sierra Desert (Inyo and Mono) areas.
Krista is originally from Yakima, WA. She graduated from Northwest University in Kirkland, WA in May 2012 with a B.A. in Pastoral Ministries and Biblical Studies. Krista is a licensed minister in the Assemblies of God. While a student, she served in Residence Life as a Resident Assistant and Apartment Representative, as well as a mentor to high school girls in her church. Her experience in student leadership developed a strong passion for student pursuits and success in higher education. Krista is excited to be a part of launching students into an extraordinary college experience at Vanguard! A northwest native, she is a connoisseur of coffee and enjoys running, being outdoors, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
Krista works with freshmen from San Bernardino County and all counties in Northern California from Alpine, Calaveras, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and Stanislaus north including the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento areas. She also works with the northwest states of Oregon and Washington.
Vannessa is originally from Rancho Cucamonga, CA. She graduated from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO in May 2014 with a B.A. in Communication Studies with a Psychology minor. While a student, she served in Admissions as a Student Ambassador, as well as Editor-in-Chief of the university Newspaper. Her experience has given her a heart for students who desire to pursue higher education and go deeper in their walk with Christ. Vannessa is excited to see students embrace their full potential and take this next step in their journey! She enjoys hanging out at coffee shops, reading, going to the movies, spontaneous dance parties, and spoken word poetry.
Vannessa works with freshmen from Imperial, Los Angeles and San Diego counties in California, and the state of Colorado.
Assistant Admissions Counselor
Darien is originally from Las Vegas, NV. She graduated from Vanguard University in 2012, with a B.A. in Liberal Studies. During her time at Vanguard, Darien was a Laguna Hall Resident Assistant (RA), a student worker in the Residence Life office and a part of a missions team to Fiji. As a student, and also post-graduation, she volunteered at Mariners Church in the Children’s and Junior High Ministries. Having always had a desire to work with high school students, Darien welcomes the opportunity to be able to walk through the admissions process with students and families and is passionate about helping each student pursue higher education, while growing in relationship with Christ and understanding his or her story and purpose. She is thrilled to be back at Vanguard and hopes students fall in love with it as much as she did. Darien loves fashion, vanilla chai lattes, baking and spending time with family and friends. She is also a die-hard Steelers and Pirates fan!
Darien works with freshmen from out-of-state except Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington.
Ariel is originally from Portland, OR. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 2012 with a B.A. in Communication. As a student, she was involved in student leadership in the residence halls, captain of SPU’s dance team, a student worker in the admissions office, and a Young Life leader for West Seattle School District. Upon graduating, she spent time living abroad in Australia to explore a new culture and connect with new people. After returning to the United States, she worked as an admissions counselor for Multnomah University in Portland, OR and loves helping students develop a greater understanding of their purpose and potential. Ariel is excited to continue her work in admissions at Vanguard!

Mike is originally from Huntington Beach, CA. He graduated from Biola University in 2010 with a B.A in Communication Studies with a Biblical Studies minor. While at Biola, he was a member of the soccer team and helped coach local teams throughout the year. Upon graduation he worked in the hospitality industry at a local resort, but soon realized that he was passionate about helping students achieve success, cultivate their own passions, and create a deeper relationship with Christ. Mike is excited to see students succeed and thrive in the wonderful community here at Vanguard! In his free time Mike enjoys playing soccer, being outdoors, watching sports, and going to the beach.
Mike works with all transfers including recruited student athletes.
Kyla is originally from Boston, MA. She graduated from Biola University in 2014 with a B.A. in Intercultural Studies and a minor in Biblical Studies. As a student, she was involved with Student Orientation Services. She worked as a student worker with Chapel Accountability, Campus Safety and Undergraduate Admissions. Her passion for Christian higher education began when she hosted prospective students in her dorm and she later became the Housing Coordinator for overnight prospective student campus visits. Her experience at a Christian university helped foster incredible community and personal growth in addition to an amazing education. Kyla is excited to help coordinate campus visits for others to have the opportunity to experience Christian higher education at Vanguard! Kyla enjoys spending time with friends, gardening succulents, and keeping her fluffy feline friend out of trouble.

Kristi is originally from Newark, CA. She heard the siren’s call and transplanted to beautiful Southern California to attend VU in 2004. She graduated in 2008 with a B.A. in Theatre Arts with a concentration in Performance/Directing. While at VU, Kristi was a resident assistant for Catalina Hall and a student worker in various departments on campus in addition to being involved in theatre productions on campus. When Kristi is not working she enjoys acting in local theatres, sewing, reading, hanging out with her husband, playing with their furry family members, and gardening.
