The Pajama Game
A Musical Comedy from the recent Broadway revival with Harry Connick Jr.
Vanguard University’s highly acclaimed and award-winning department of theatre arts presents The Pajama Game, based upon the novel, “71/2 cents” by Richard Bissell, with book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell and music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The Pajama Game is presented in the Lyceum Theatre on the Vanguard University campus, April 5 through April 22.
The hazards of workplace romances are explored to hysterical effect in this musical comedy about tightly knit working conditions at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. Discord is sown in the ruffled relationship between the new superintendent and the leader of the union grievance committee as they attempt to smooth out the wrinkles of a worker’s strike. USA Today says, “At last, pure escapist fun has come back to Broadway…it’s a treat to watch a game in which all the players are winners.”
The show’s director, Vanda Eggington, says, “Since The Pajama Game was originally produced in 1954, we have decided to set our production in that same year. However, we are not creating nostalgia about the 50’s, but rather art from the 50’s. This musical is a look at life in that adventurous and rousing decade as the story explores the nuances of work, home, romance and relationships. Having survived World War II, it was a time when the nation was filled with hope, vigor and excitement for the future.”
Performance dates and times are April 5, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 8:00 pm; and April 7, 14, 21 and 22 at 2:00 pm.
All shows are presented on the campus of Vanguard University, in the Lyceum Theater. Ticket prices are $17 for general admission and $14 for seniors, children, groups and college students.
