Perfect Blend of Academics and Entertainment

The VU theatre department’s rigorous academic program proves itself in its productions. Students are challenged by robust and comprehensive curriculum that presents itself impeccably on the stage through high quality design, production and performance elements. Recent NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre) accreditation validates the high standards of excellence in the program, and ongoing invitations to the western region Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival proves consistently stellar production value.

VU theatre major graduates have gone on to work in diverse careers in various areas: stage, film, television marketing, law and education are just a few. Kristina Kuzmic (2001) is the recent winner of her own cooking show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network. Many have also been accepted to elite, professional M.F.A. programs across the country including UC Los Angeles, UC Irvine, Rutgers, University of Illinois; and to conservatories such as American Conservatory Theatre and the Royal Scottish Drama Academy.

Involved in Community

The surrounding community considers the VU Theatre Department its “hidden entertainment treasure” and has loyally supported it for decades. Donations to the Lyceum Theater Campaign are consistent and being rallied to commence the construction of both the new front lobby and the rear costume shop, dressing rooms and green room. Open Forum discussions with the audience after designated performances continue to be a highlight for many who desire inside information about behind-the-scenes activities, and Senior Showcase is a favorite among those who get to know the students and desire to come and see their final project productions.
