Vanguard University’s Theatre Department Presents
Two Classic Christmas Favorites
Tales of hope and generosity remind us of the true gift of the season: everlasting love
Costa Mesa, CA, December 3, 2013 – Vanguard University’s highly acclaimed and award-winning department of theatre arts presents two short classic Christmas stories, Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl, and O. Henry’s The Gift of the Magi. The production is directed by Kevin Slay and is presented in the Lyceum Theater on the Vanguard University campus, beginning December 5, 2013 and running through December 15, 2013.
Juxtaposed against the wonderful joys and fantasies of Christmas are the real-life human hardships that the Child of Christmas is destined to redeem. The Little Match Girl draws us into the realities of homelessness and exposure, and then illuminates the promise of everlasting warmth in the embracing arms of love. Then the beloved holiday story of The Gift of the Magi unwraps the sacrificial giving aspect of true love as a young married couple both exchange their most prized possessions as their singular Christmas gifts to each other.
Presented together, these two shows are suitable for age 6 and older. All performances are presented on the campus of Vanguard University, in the Lyceum Theater. Ticket prices are $14 for general admission and $12 for seniors, children, groups and college students. Tickets may be purchased at www.vanguardtickets.com or by calling the Theatre Department box office at 714-668-6145.
