In its March meeting, Vanguard University’s Board of Trustees approved faculty emeritus status for Dr. Jerry Camery-Hoggatt, Professor of New Testament and Narrative Theology.
For thirty-two years, Dr. Camery-Hoggatt, who retired in the spring of 2015, served the university as an exemplary scholar and beloved professor to both undergraduate and graduate students. In addition to his work in the classroom, Dr. Camery-Hoggatt has made significant contributions through his administrative roles as Department of Biblical Studies Chair (1993-1997), Division of Religion Chair (2001-2004), and Director of Graduate Programs in Religion (2004-2005).
Dr. Camery-Hoggatt has also contributed to the reputation of Vanguard University by becoming one of the most well-published faculty members in the university’s history. His titles include scholarly works such as Irony in the Gospel of Mark: Text and Subtext (Cambridge University Press, 1992), as well as more popular works such When Mother was Eleven-Foot-Four: A Christmas Memory (Fleming Revell, 2001).
And so we in the Department of Religion thank our friend and colleague for his service and congratulate him on a job well done.
