Dr. Westbrook enjoys sharing with students her great love for the biblical text. Each academic year, she introduces students to the formal study of scripture, teaching several foundational courses in the Religion core curriculum and biblical Hebrew. She also regularly teaches courses in Old Testament historical books, the Pentateuch, and the book of Proverbs, giving specific attention to both narrative and poetry interpretation methodologies, while encouraging students to discover the amazing relevance of these texts to the current reader.

Professor Westbrook has presented formal papers at the annual meetings of academic associations such as the Society of Biblical Literature and the Society for Pentecostal Studies. She has contributed articles and chapters to edited volumes, such as the Encyclopedia of the Bible and Its Reception, (DeGruyter, 2013 and 2014) and the Old Testament Survey textbook, They Spoke From God (Logion Press, 2005). Her dissertation was recently published in revised form, ‘And He Will Take Your Daughters…’: Woman Story and the Ethical Evaluation of Monarchy in the David Narrative (Bloomsbury/T&T Clark, LHBOTS Dissertation Series, 2015).

As an ordained minister for over twenty-five years, Professor Westbrook also has great interest in issues concerning women in leadership and ministry roles. She regularly teaches related courses, as well as speaking at conferences, retreats and chapel services.

Professor Westbrook has had the privilege of traveling internationally to teach and preach, to study and learn, or just to enjoy the people and beauty in countries such as Israel, Jordan, Singapore, Malaysia, Ireland, England, Ecuador and, of course, Canada and Mexico. Most of all, she loves to be at home in southern California where she enjoys music, gardening, cooking and eating good food with good friends.
