Introduction to Reach Baja

Reach Baja is a great “first mission trip” for your youth group and a time of further growth for those who have participated in missions before. The missionary endeavor is rooted in the very heart of God. Jesus commanded us to “go into all the world” and Mexico is often a first step. We have seen lives changed and students called to ministry and missions after their experiences on Reach Baja. 2008 will mark our 10th trip to the San Quintin area.  Check out the links on the left to find out more about the trip!

History

Hands Across the Border (HATB) has been a ministry of Vanguard University for over 15 years. In 1999, the director of HATB, Corrina Castillo (Morris) and VU's Outreach Ministries Director, Tom Bohnert, felt called to start a similar trip for junior high and high school students. As a result, Reach Baja was born. This trip is specially designed for students. Some have called it a combination of a camp and a missions trip. A full worship band, special speakers, and morning devotionals encourage and feed students and youth pastors as they in turn feed the people of Mexico through a variety of ministries.

Our Name

HATBY was formed in connection with the Hands Across the Border ministry of Vanguard University in 1999. After five successful trips taking junior high and high school students across the border, the leadership of HATBY felt that it was important to create a more distinct identity and have a name that is more easily identified than an acronym. It is our desire to reach across the border into the area of Baja California, Mexico and allow God to use this trip to change lives. Thus the new name, Reach Baja.
