For several years (through 2009), academic majors were organized in “schools.” The Dean’s Award honored the undergraduate student within the School of Psychology with the highest cumulative grade point average.
|Travis Wood is the recipient of the School of Psychology’s 2009 Dean’s Award! Travis will continue his education in the Fall of 2009 in a Master’s program in Experimental Psychology at California State Universty San Marcos. After receiving his Master’s, Travis hopes to attain a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. Even though Travis transferred into VU, he was able to integrate himself into the community. He was in ASB his junior year and an RA his senior year at VU. Travis participated in multiple missions trips in California and Mexico. His academic contributions include serving as research assistant and as a Teaching Intern. Travis graduated summa cum laude, with awards inluding the School of Psychology Dean’s Award, Delta Kappa, Psychology Savants, as well as the Shirley Albertson Owens Academic Achievement Award.|
|Valerie Elwell is the recipient of the School of Psychology’s 2008 Dean’s Award!
Valerie graduated VU in December of 2007. She currently lives in Fresno, CA and works as a Behavioral Therapist for Autistic children in addition to working as a childcare worker for at risk youth in a group home. Valerie will be applying to Master’s Programs for study in Marriage and Family Therapy for Fall of 2009. She served as a TA and a research assistant in her junior and senior years at VU. During the summer of 2006, she served with a missions team to Mozambique working with orphans and the surrounding community of Machava. Valerie was Treasurer of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. She has been a member of Psi Chi since 2005. Valerie’s academic awards include: Summa Cum Laude graduate, President’s Honor Award, Provost’s Award, Psychology Savant, and Outstanding Student in Psychology.

|Ciprian Boitor is the recipient of the School of Psychology’s 2006 Dean’s Award!
Ciprian has worked as direct care staff at a group home for the last two years, working with at risk adolescents. He has also gained work experience with autistic children. Ciprian was a “psychology savant” as well as a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society. Ciprian has been on the forensic team from 2004-2006 as well as being a viola player in the school orchestra from 2004-2006 and serving as an officer in 2006. He has served on summer missions trips each summer for the last four years. For the last two summers he led an orphanage camp for 50 adolescents in the Republic of Moldova. Upon graduation he plans to continue working with autistic children and then go on to graduate school.
|Psychology major Cheri Reynolds is the co-recipient of the Social Science Division 2005 Outstanding Academic Achievement Award! Among Cheri’s many accomplishments are the following: 4.0 cumulative G.P.A., elected to Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, recipient of the President’s Honor Award and the Department of Psychology’s “Outstanding Student in Psychology” Award for 2005, and is one of this year’s “Psychology Savants.” Cheri has served as a teaching assistant for Statistics on two separate occasions and has worked with both Free Arts for Abused Children and Human Options, a shelter for battered women and their children.|

|Psychology major Jennaya Hicks is the recipient of the Social Science Division 2003 Outstanding Academic Achievement Award! Among Jennaya’s many accomplishments are the following: 4.0 cumulative G.P.A., elected to Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, President of the Vanguard University Concert Choir, and recipient of the Presidential Academic Scholarship. Jennaya has served as a Teaching Assistant for both Behavior Modification and Introduction to Statistical Methods, and Jennaya has served as an intern at Children’s Bureau of Southern California, educating teen moms on infant care and parenting techniques and making a presentation to social workers on the impact of divorce on children.|
|Psychology major LaShandra Rinas is the recipient of the Social Science Division 2002 Outstanding Academic Achievement Award! Among LaShandra’s many accomplishments are the following: 4.0 cumulative G.P.A., elected to Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, and recipient of the President’s Honor Award. LaShandra has served as a Teaching Assistant for Introduction to Statistical Methods and has successfully tutored many anxious students through Statistics! LaShandra has also served as a Research Assistant, conducting institutional research for Vanguard University under the supervision of Dr. Shirley Albertson Owens.|
