The psychology department celebrated the 20th year of Vanguard University’s chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology! Forty-five students were honored as recent inductees into Psi Chi! Dr. Soha Heidari was the invited guest speaker, talking to our students about careers in psychology.
The Psychology Department at Vanguard University welcomes new professor, Dr. Michael Hanna. Dr. Hanna comes to the department with a PhD in Biological Sciences, specializing in Neurobiology and Behavior. He is currently teaching General Psychology and Biological Psychology and will be teaching Cognitive Psychology in future semesters. Dr. Hanna has a love for teaching and mentoring students and his contributions are already being felt and appreciated by his colleagues and students.
Ricky Colombo (2010) is enjoying being in the Applied Behavior Analysis option of the M.S. in Psychology program at California State University Los Angeles. As Ricky says of the behavioral approach, “The natural contingencies of reinforcing good behavior or extinguishing unwanted behavior is Godly. He is always present in the natural world.” Ricky encourages current psychology majors to explore Applied Behavior Analysis as a career path!
Nancy Diaz (2013) is employed by Autism Interventions and Resources, in Laguna Hills. The agency provides Applied Behavior Analysis to children and families affected by developmental disabilities. Nancy started out as a Behavior Interventionist and has recently been promoted to Behavior Consultant. In this role, Nancy trains and observes parents, helping them to consistently apply the interventions recommended for their children.
Adam Hearron, a recent graduate from Vanguard’s SPS Psychology program, and his wife, Joanna, have just moved to Myanmar with Global Family, a non-profit organization that rescues and cares for abused and abandoned children. Another Vanguard graduate, Clark Jensen, founded this organization which currently has locations in India and Nepal. Adam and Joanna will be starting up the program in Myanmar and are some of the first Americans allowed into Myanmar since it has become a democratic nation.
