The Women’s Chorus of Vanguard University in Southern California consists of 45 singers and instrumentalists sponsored by the Department of Music at Vanguard University. Members of the Women’s Chorus are selected from the close to 2,000-member student body and are representative of the many academic majors offered at Vanguard University. The Vanguard University Women’s Chorus has presented classical, sacred, secular, and contemporary concerts in major concert halls, schools, churches, conferences and conventions throughout California and the Western United States.

The Director

Dr. Joni Y. Prado, Assistant Professor of Music D.M.A, is the conductor of the University Women’s Chorus and has grown the ensemble to where it is today. Additional teaching areas include Basic Musicianship, Music for Elementary Schools, Foreign Language Diction, Private Voice and Opera Scenes. Also in demand as an adjudicator, Dr. Prado has served at the district and national levels of the AG Fine Arts Festival, ACSI festivals and various public school district festivals.

The Tours

The Vanguard University Women’s Chorus tours yearly throughout the Western United States at churches and schools, outside of local, monthly bookings. During the tour, members are able to become more unified and experience first hand what it means to minister as a professional Christian performer. They have also performed at the Avery Fisher Hall and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, in May 2009 & 2012. The Women’s Chorus also participated as part of a combined choral performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2003 & 2006.


The Vanguard University Women’s Chorus has recorded three CD projects, the most recent is Kaleidoscope of Praise, released in Spring 2010. For ordering information please follow this link.

Booking Information

book nowThe Vanguard University Women’s Chorus is available for booking October through April, often taking longer regional tours in March and/or May. These concerts are being reserved up to one year in advance. Please fill out a Concert Request Form or contact the Music Events office at 714.619-6412 or to request the group for your specific event, church, or school.
