Being a part of the Vanguard Women’s Chorus was unlike anything I could’ve imagined. There is whole-hearted truth in saying that Women’s Chorus is the closest thing Vanguard has to a sorority. The heart of our ministry was always centered around worshipping our Father and it brought us together as a family closer than any other I found on campus.

My family away from home, my best friends, my greatest mentors, and all of my favorite college memories come directly from this group of incredibly talented women.

We are called Luminaria because it means light, and I cannot find any other word that could describe us better. This is the group that I came to with each prayer request, and each girl did the same. We laughed together, mourned together, struggled together, and together we saw the hand of the Lord move through our lives. And the greatest part of that journey was being able to turn right around, in the moment, and worship Jesus for all that He was doing.

The professionalism of the group has grown more and more since my first year, and will only continue to grow under Joni’s continued direction. For any young woman with a heart for worship and love for musicality, Dub-C, as we say, is the way to be.

I remember sitting in Music Camp before the Vanorama event and hearing how amazing the Women’s Choir was. Yes, Joni Prado was sharing with us how the Women’s Choir was like a sisterhood and I remember feeling drawn to that. As cliché as this may sound, little did I know how much of a blessing it was to be a part of such a beautiful bond with such beautiful souls.

When you think “Choir” you may picture a group of people wearing those large robes and you may even hear them singing some epic melody in a foreign language. Yes, Choirs can actually do such things but this Women’s Choir was so much more than the singing; we focused on the heart. We shared our hearts with each other. We prayed with each other and for each other. We truly did live life together and we sang with passion for the One who gave us the ability to worship through music.

My three years  spent in Vanguard’s Women’s Choir was truly an unforgettable experience that contributed to the worshiper I am today. May God continue to bless the Women’s Choir of Vanguard, using them to be a light to all the places they go.

The Tours

Women’s Chorus performs an annual concert tour, traveling throughout the Western United States region, ministering in churches and schools along the way.  Ministering and worshiping together as a unit, these concert tours build camaraderie, character and friendships that last a lifetime.  In addition to the annual choir tour, this ensemble has had several opportunities to participate in a combined choral performance with the University Concert Choir at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York.
