Trimmer CroppedVanguard’s Jazz group, under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Foerch, performed and were adjudicated on that Friday, as the schedule was comprised of various clinics and competitions, featuring high-profile adjudicators and guest musicians offering their expertise.  Awards were given to select students who displayed outstanding musicianship, and we are very excited to say that one award was present to our very own Chris Trimmer, for “Outstanding Musicianship on Guitar”!  We congratulate Chris for this well-deserved recognition, and are so proud to be a part of this accomplishment in his career!

Had a great time in Seattle! There is something about Pike Place… maybe it is the first ever Starbucks, maybe it is the street performers, or maybe it is the food, but it is incredible. Even in the rain.

Enjoy.

Concert Choir Spring Tour – Miracle Ranch

tuesday afternoon, evening and wednesday morning was spent at miracle ranch camp.

one word: beautiful.

the multifaceted greens. the deep browns. the bright red trim and chairs on and around our cabins. the thirty horses – big and small, majestic and ordinary – eating hay. the hospitality we received. boy, do they know how to serve with a cheerful and sincere heart. the abundance of food (oh, the food!). dinner: steak. potatoes. carrots. bread. dessert. and other various sides. breakfast: bagels. fruit (so much fruit!). yogurt. eggs. bacon. hashbrowns. the rodeo! yes, a rodeo with dirt. horses. goats. chickens. geese. and team challenges in the cold night air. a coffee room with games and piano. well-heated and furnished cabins.

and

snow.
well, first rain. then hail. then snow. covering each roof. the entire landscape. and our jackets. it was lovely. beautiful.

Concert Choir Spring Tour – Memorable Moments

Concert Choir Spring Tour –

some memorable moments:

our group stayed the night with a pastor and his wife. they told stories of families they counseled and people who they helped with addictions over the course of eight years. they are both heroes and we got to meet them.

one motor home. three dudes. thirty-eight degrees. phantom sounds. sulfur shower water. pie. love. no shame.

my home stay was pretty old, but not too old. it made my night when she said “if you need anything, just holla.” I still can’t believe she said “holla.”

us four girls stayed in a house all by ourselves. we danced, ate pastry cake, and had a blast.

we stayed at a place with no street lights. the two sons took us on a midnight hike around the neighborhood. we heard the brook and felt the gentle yet painfully cold breeze. oh, and we heard some frogs!

for the first time, i saw snow! it wasn’t the winter wonderland you see in movies. it was just a little sprinkle in Hood River, Oregon. it was magical.

Women’s Chorus Tour – Day 3

We started off the day with breakfast at our hotel in San Fransisco. Then we loaded up and headed to San Jose! We arrived at Valley Christian School and prepared for a choral exchange! We ate lunch with their Women’s Choir and the other Choir students! After lunch we performed several songs for these high school and middle school students. After we sang for them, their Women’s Choir sang for us, they are fabulous! To end the exchange, we sang “Esto Les Digo” with their Women’s Choir. It was beautiful! After the exchange we shared info about Vanguard with the students and then headed back to Vanguard!

Women’s Chorus Tour – Day 2

Day 2-

Today started off with breakfast with our lovely home stays! We all arrived at San Luis Assmebly in the morning for sound check before the service. We were privelaged to lead the entire service with worship and various songs. Along with these songs several girls from the Women’s Chorus shared their testimonies, which were a total blessing to hear. There is sucha freedom about hearing tesimonies and how the Lord is working in the lives of His people! After the service, the church laid hands on us and prayed a blessing over us. Over all, the service went very well!

After the service we loaded up and headed for San Fransisco! We arrived at The Opal hotel in downtown San Fransisco and had the rest of the night to hang out and walk around downtown. It was a lovely night to say the least!

Guitar Ensemble Spring Tour

The Guitar Ensemble, directed by Dr. Greg Glancey and Michael Nigro, had their first Spring Tour. This recently formed group has been performing locally and has taken a few mini-tours these past few semesters. Their tour this semester  took them to Las Vegas, NV and they were received in high regard. They were featured in the Arts & Entertainment section of a local magazine, the Desert Companion:

One of the highlights of the tour was the concert at the Clark County Library. There were over 200 people in attendance and they were an exciting and engaged audience. Two soloists to highlight from this concert were Samuel Hines playing ‘Prelude from the 4th Lute Suite’ by J.S. Bach and Josefat Valle playing ‘Joropo‘ by Jose Luis Merlin. Both soloists received rousing applause and the audience’s enthusiasm for the Guitar Ensemble was demonstrated with multiple standing ovations.

Other concerts on tour included a fun concert with Jesse Stretz’s Church and a performance at the Las Vegas Guitar Society. At the church, the Guitar Ensemble was highlighted in the worship service and demonstrated how music, creativity, and excellence are wonderful ways to worship.   They were ‘praising through playing’. At the Las Vegas Guitar Society, soloists Samuel Hines, Josefat Valle, & Chris Akin represented Vanguard University well among the Classical Guitar Society Members.

They capped off the tour by eating at Planet Hollywood as a group, take a ride on the roller coaster at the New York, New York, and seeing some other famous Vegas sites. It was truly a tour to remember and a great addition to the Guitar Ensemble Legacy.

We also want to give a special thank you to Eric & Christina Stretz for all of their hard work and coordination for this tour. You guys are amazing. Thank You.
