Here you will find general information, class requirements, and sample four year plans for each concentration that Vanguard’s Department of Kinesiology offers.
The pre-health curriculum was designed specifically to prepare the student for entry into graduate school in physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, nursing and physician assistant. The science courses provide the student with a foundation upon which to build an understanding of how the human body functions, while the exercise science courses expand upon the breadth and depth of information in recognition, assessment, and rehabilitation of injuries.
Exercise and Sports Science
While students are introduced to the science of how the body works through human anatomy, human physiology, movement anatomy and exercise physiology, the student is then provided an opportunity to learn advanced fitness testing techniques in fitness assessment and ECG and exercise testing.
Teaching and Coaching
The curriculum at VU was recently redesigned to be in compliance with the Commission on Teaching Credentialing in California. The Commission approved VU’s single subject preparation program in physical education in April, 2000. The curriculum was rewritten to include nine new courses. All of the combined courses together incorporate the new standards in physical education for California. The program is extensive, but is comprehensive in nature.
