The History & Political Science Department will be hosting a lecture by Josh Good, Program Manager for the Values & Capitalism Project at the American Enterprise Institute, on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in Needham Chapel.  He will be speaking on the topic “Helping the Poor Without Hurting: How Free Enterprise Reframes Social Policy.”

History & Political Science Induction Ceremony

The History & Political Science Department will be inducting students into their honor societies on Wednesday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the Great Commission Hall.

Phi Alpha Theta is the international history honor society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.  Being inducted into Phi Alpha Theta are Jonathan Beck, Vasili Brasinikas, Tyler Briscoe, Karina Contreras, Rebecca Dattilo, Tyler De La Houssaye, Christopher Jonker, Yaroslav Klyonov, Michael Lamb, Audrie Maynard, Adrian Michael and Kevin Paschall.

Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society founded to encourage and recognize superior achievement in the study of government and politics at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Vasili Brasinikas, Tyler Briscoe, Rebecca Dattilo, Christian Fulmer, Christopher Jonker, Michael Lamb, Adrian Michael, Kevin Paschall and Alex Pass will be inducted into Pi Sigma Alpha.

HPS Movie Night

The History & Political Science Department will be hosting a Movie Night on Friday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m. in HTH 100.  Enjoy a Cold War classic from 1984.  “Red Dawn” is the fictional tale of a Russian invasion of the USA and the brave teenagers who fought them.  Free food and drinks!  Everyone welcome!

Welcome/Welcome Back Party

All History & Political Science majors are invited to a Welcome/Welcome Back Party on Tuesday, September 4, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Great Commission Hall (2nd floor of Heath).  Games, snacks and fun!

HPS 2012 Outstanding Student Awards

Each year the History & Political Science Department presents two awards to graduating seniors.

Elijah Dove received the 2012 Phi Alpha Theta Award as the Outstanding Graduate in History.

The 23rd Annual Spring Colloquium was held on April 16, 2012 featuring the presentations of exemplary student research papers.   Two students were selected from the History & Political Science Department to present their work.  Daniel Waite, with his emphasis on History, presented his paper “The My Lai Massacre.”
