Healthy Women are Healthy Veterans is a collaborative project between the Global Center for Women and Justice and the Vanguard University Nursing Department, and is funded by Swords to Plowshares.
The Healthy Veterans project seeks to increase visibility of women veterans in the public health community and primary care services. The transition from military to civilian life can be challenging for many veterans, particularly women who return as the primary caretaker for children or family members. Many women who have served do not seek services from the VA healthcare system, and instead, see medical professionals at civilian clinics.
Through a grant from Swords to Plowshares, the Global Center for Women and Justice and the Vanguard University Nursing Program created a short change-of-shift training video for healthcare professionals on women who served in the military. To supplement this project, we have created an easy to use Fact Sheet and Content Review Questions in order to resource and support professionals as they serve women veterans. Thank you to Swords to Plowshares for the opportunity to continue our mission to train and educate students and community members to study the issues, be a voice, and make a difference.
