For the 50th Episode of the Ending Human Trafficking Podcast, GCWJ Director Sandra Morgan and Board member Dave Stachowiak interview Kimberly McOwen Yim, co-author of Refuse to Do Nothing: Finding Your Power to Abolish Modern-Day Slavery about finding her place as an abolitionist. Similar to many of us, Yim once felt that she had little power to make a difference in modern-day slavery, yet when she realized the power she held through advocacy and relationships, she was able to help educate and influence others to get involve and make a difference. This influence doesn’t happen instantly, it can take two or three “touches” before someone begins to see that they too can have an impact on modern-day slavery. Yim suggests one of the best ways to get involved is by examining your own spending habits – what you purchase makes a difference! Take time to look at what you buy, perhaps the best “deal” is not a just choice when considering who made it and from where it came. And finally – the best way to get involved is always use the National Human Trafficking hotline number whenever you see something that doesn’t look quite right – 888-3737-888.
