Doug Petersen, Ph.D.

Doug Petersen, a Director of the Judkins Institute for Leadership Studies,  is the Margaret S. Smith Distinguished Professor of Intercultural Studies at Vanguard University of Southern California. In 1977, Petersen co-founded Latin America ChildCare (LACC) and served as its International Coordinator and President for 23 years. LACC, an international relief organization, provides food, medical care and education for over 100,000 impoverished children in Latin America and the Caribbean. He has also coordinated and organized numerous grassroots initiatives and projects throughout Latin America. Doug is also the founder of the international linguistics school CINCEL (Centro de investigaciones y estudioslinguísticos) in San José, Costa Rica.

Doug has published extensively on the social practices of social and economic leadership. Two of Petersen’s books, including his research on the dynamics of faith-based organizations in Latin America, were selected as Outstanding Books during the last decade by the International Bulletin of Mission Research. He has received several research grants including Geneva Global Research, World Relief and the PEW Charitable Trusts.

Doug Petersen, Vanguard's 2005 "Alumnus of the Year," also serves as the Executive Director of Vision 2010, a $65 Million capital campaign. He and his wife Myrna live in Orange County, California.
