Vanguard University of Southern California

Health Insurance

Why does health insurance show up on my tuition?  How do I waive out of it?
All registered graduate students enrolled in 5 or more units and undergraduates enrolled in 7 or more units will automatically be enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. In order to waive out of the insurance, students must have comparable coverage through another insurance plan and must complete the Waiver Card and submit it, along with a copy of both sides of the Insurance ID card. International students may not wave out health insurance. Please contact Business Services for deadlines.

Why should I consider Vanguard’s health insurance versus my own?
Vanguard University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) was created to meet the specific needs of students. We are proud to offer a comprehensive major medical and dental insurance plan underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company and Health Net Dental Plans. These programs have been carefully designed to meet the Vanguard requirements and student health care needs and expenses. For more specific information, please visit www.chickering.com.

Do I have to waive my health insurance every semester?
Yes. Health Insurance must be waived every semester, and a copy of your current health insurance card must be submitted with the waiver. Failure to do this will result in your ownership of the health insurance plan through the entire semester.
