The curriculum in the Department of Communication is designed to enhance student learning by a stair-step coursework process. The department is committed to making sure students are adequately prepared at each step to achieve success at their learning potential.

When a student becomes a Communication Major, they must choose an emphasis in Communication Studies or Cinema / Digital Media. These emphases each have their own CORE and EMPHASIS CONCENTRATION requirements.

• All Communication degrees require a total of 124 units.

• Majors with an emphasis in Cinema/Digital Media consist of 52-55 Core Curriculum units, 31 units of Communication core classes, 24 units of concentration units (Production or Screenwriting), and 15-17 additional/elective units.

• Majors with an emphasis in Communication Studies consist of 52-55 Core Curriculum units, 26 units of Communication core classes, 21 unit of concentration units (Public Relations, Journalism, Intercultural, or Interpersonal/Organizational), and 22-25 additional/elective units.
