Student Speakers Announced for Commencement

The 2012 Commencement Student Speakers have been announced by the University President, Dr. Carol Taylor.

EMILY SANDERS is graduating with a Master of Science degree from Vanguard’s Graduate Program in Clinical Psychology. Emily has her BA from Life Pacific College and is a licensed Foursquare minister. She and her husband, Michael, have a daughter named Liv and serve as college pastors. One of her professors describes her as someone highly respected by her peers who has a great sense of humor and radiates joy. Emily plans to pursue licensure as a marriage and family therapist after graduation. She says that her time in the graduate program has made her a better servant of Jesus, wife, mother, and pastor, and that she is leaving a changed woman.

MICHAEL CHADDICK is graduating from Vanguard’s School for Professional Studies with a BA in Religion, with an emphasis in ministry and leadership. Prior to attending Vanguard, Mike received his AA degree from Orange Coast College. He is currently an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and plans to continue his education by pursuing graduate work in theology. One of his professors describes him as a diligent student who made informed contributions to the classroom shaped by a strong pastoral outlook. Mike says that he could not have succeeded at Vanguard without the loving support of his wife, Beth (also a School for Professional Studies graduate), and his children. He narrows down his positive experience at Vanguard to two things: an outstanding faculty and a program that allowed him to study ministry full-time while also working as a full-time minister.

DAVID R. VAZQUEZ is graduating from Vanguard with a BA in History/Political Science and a minor in Religion. David is a Southern California native, born and raised in Long Beach. He has been actively involved on campus since his freshman year at Vanguard. David held a number of positions in the Student Government Association (SGA) and most recently has served as SGA President for the last two years. David has also served at Vanguard as a chapel speaker, worship team member, and missions trip member. He was a research and teaching assistant for the History/Political Science department and spent last summer in

Washington, D.C. interning for the United States House Committee on Ways and Means. One of David’s professors says, “David is a truly exceptional young man and a natural leader. David is one of the best students and minds (top 1%) I have had the pleasure of teaching.”
