MyPlan is  free to Vanguard University Students and alumni. The online service that helps students and professionals explore their personality, interests, skills, and values.

Personality Type

Helps individuals discover their unique personality type, identified through four preference areas (approaches to: the outer world, to information, to decisions, and to other people).

Interest Inventory

Reflects individuals career interest areas, correlated to six General Occupational Themes (GOTs). Identifies preferred job environment and job requirements.

Values Assessment

Helps individuals identify occupations that may provide a satisfying work environment, and pinpoints what is important to them in a job. Describes similarity between individual’s work values  and the characteristics of similarly valued occupations.

Skills Profiler

Self-assessment instrument that assists individuals in developing a profile of their own skills. Not an aptitude test, nor does it measure your capacity for learning. Provides structured means for objectively profiling their skills and for comparing their skill set to various careers.

How To: Contact Career Services for your free code. This video includes visual steps in using MyPlan.

Next steps:

  1. Schedule an appointment with Career Services to discuss your results.
  2. After completing the assessments, click on “Composite Score” on the left side and you will be provided a list of your top career matches. Jot down the jobs provided that you are interested in and research them using the MyPlan website.

When taking the assessment, indicate your PREFERRED behavior when answering the questions. Answer as if no one else is going to see your actions and give you their approval or judgment about that behavior; no friends, parents or teachers are going to tell you whether you did the right thing, only yourself. There are no expectations or “shoulds” included in the answers. There is no “normally” I do this, because the possibility is that they may “normally” be acting outside of their preferred behavior because of an outside expectation.

What it is:

The StrengthsFinder assessment helps students and alumni discover their talents and gain insight into their areas of greatest potential: the things that you naturally do best. StrengthsFinder is not a career assessment and it won’t tell you what job or career you should do. It does provide valuable information about who you are and gives you clues to the type of work environment in which you are most likely to thrive. Watch a video clip to learn more!

How to take the assessment:

StrengthsFinder codes may be purchased for $10.00. Either cash or check payments may be used. Checks should be made payable to Vanguard University, with StrengthsFinder Code in the note section. Either payment method may be hand-delivered to our Scott 230 office or mailed to: Career Services, 55 Fair Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. For mailings, please provide the student/alumni name, email address, and phone number.

Upon receiving the $10.00 payment, Career Services will provide the student or alumni with the code and instructions for completing the StrengthsFinder assessment

What you receive:

After you take the assessment, you’ll receive a customized report that lists your top five talent themes, along with action items for development and suggestions about how you can use your talents to achieve academic, career, and personal success.
