Why Should YOU Join Enactus (formerly SIFE)
It’s the ripple effect, you know… Drop your own pebble into the pond of entrepreneurial social change.
Teaming up with other students with a shared passion for making a difference, you will take an experiential learning adventure capped off by researching and developing your own custom-designed business vehicle of social change…
Did you ever have an idea about how to change the world (or at least your part of it)?
Did you ever want to be a part of something that was about more than just you?
In the course of one semester, you will:
- Understand the concepts of sustainability and social entrepreneurship in the context of a Christian worldview;
- Organize and run a grant-enabled service project in conjunction with The United Way;
- Form a team of ENACTUS business partners and allies;
- Design a socially-conscious business model or service project;
- Explore the proper business structure necessary to get it off the ground;
- Learn how to develop its business or marketing plan;
- Use that plan as a basis to develop a unique brand and/or story sufficient to pursue funding; and
- Present your results to the business and student community.
Take a look as some of the ways we reach out to the community
Walk for Kids
Enactus and the Business Chapel team partnered with Fred and Fran Hill, co-founders of the first Ronald McDonald House, in helping recruit over 90 people to participate on Team Kim Hill in the 2014 Walk for Kids™. This event is a 5K walk designed to raise funds and awareness for the services and programs provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California.
VITA is an organization, which strives to make a difference in the community. One such way is in helping undeserved tax payers through programs such as income tax preparation assistance and Facilitated Self-Assist. Vanguard seeks to instill leadership and communicate skills in every student on campus. Thus, VITA is not only an incredible service opportunity for the community; it also services our students by preparing them for the real world after they graduate.
The Environmental Sustainability Conference
This student-organized event is designed to be and day of education and networking, bringing environmental industry experts to the Orange County business community as well as OC’s university students, to generate ideas and solutions on sustainable business practices.
Vanguard SIFE partnered with Growers First to take members of our SIFE team out of the country to Honduras for the first time in VU SIFE history. There, the SIFE crew assisted in the harvesting of coffee beans and helped get the farmers’ harvest into the free market- eliminating the middle man and putting more money into the hands of the farmers. The Project Leader for Growers First, Michael O’ Connor made a documentary called “Filling the Cup” that shows the trip to Honduras and the change that was made there.
VU SIFE has a longstanding relationship with Costa Mesa’s Girls, Inc.- a company that provides an after school program for young girls. The VU SIFE team met with the girls regularly, teaching them the fundamentals of financial literacy using faux paper money and really cool prizes to develop the skill of saving money.
