Dr. Jim Walz serves as the Chair of the Department of Business and Management. He is a graduate of University of Hawaii, and has an MBA and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership. His professional experience stems from a long love of entertainment and music where he oversaw a small entertainment empire that included television production, music recording and publishing, live concert performances, and tours, as well as management of the 4-time Grammy Award winning music group, The Imperials. His experience in higher education spans 25 years and includes the presidency of two colleges, and as the dean of two business schools. He has also served in leadership, management, and training roles as a Naval Officer, and as an executive in health care, and consumable products. His research interests and publications are in the areas of Ethics, Organizational Change, Strategy, and Leadership. His new book, “SPeak Performance: Using the Power of Metaphors to Communicate Vision, Motivate People, and Lead Your Organization to Success,” published by Business Expert Press, is currently available on Amazon. He lives in Los Angeles with Laurie, his wife of 28 years. They have a 24-year-old son, Jamie, who recently graduated with his Masters Degree in International Development from the University of Edinburgh, and a 21-year-old daughter, Lindsey, who is a college senior studying Transformational Ministry at Life Pacific College.
