Vanguard Lions Net Seven in a Row

Costa Mesa, Calif – The No. 12-ranked Vanguard Lions kept their winning streak alive with an 8-1 victory over Biola University this afternoon in Costa Mesa. The Lions have now won seven matches in a row and improved to 10-5 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

Vanguard swept through doubles play with 8-1, 8-6, and 8-0 decisions, respectively. Betyel Tesfa and Brittnie Furuvald picked up the 8-0 shutout in the No. 3 match to lead the VU doubles teams to the 3-0 sweep.

Tesfa, Kateryna Malakhova, and Anna Valingsten were dominating singles play with 6-0, 6-0 wins over their respective opponents in the No. 2, 3, and 4 singles positions for the Lions. Furuvald lost on three games in a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 6, while Hana Jurcovicova notched VU’s eighth point with a 6-4, 6-2 decision in the top singles match.

The Lions’ next GSAC match is on Tuesday against Concordia University.
