Women's Tennis Shuts Out Eagles
La Mirada, Calif – The No. 3-ranked Vanguard Lions took care of business in La Mirada today. Visiting the Eagles Tennis Center in La Mirada, the Lions defeated the hosts 9-0 to improve to 2-1 overall and in GSAC.
Vanguard was nearly perfect in doubles play as the Lions gave up only one game between all three matches. VU won the second and third doubles matches 8-0 and posted an 8-1 victory at number one.
Betyel Tesfa (6-0, 6-1) and Kateryna Malakhova (6-1, 6-0) lost only one game in their respective singles matches for the Lions. Anna Valingsten (6-2, 6-0) and Brittnie Furuvald (6-3, 6-0) also notched one shutout set in their two-set victories.
Playing No. 1 and No. 5 singles, Hana Jurcovicova (6-1, 6-4), and Maria Xavier (4-6, 6-1, 10-6) secured VU’s shutout victory by taking care of their Eagle opponents in straight sets.
The Lions travel to Irvine for their next GSAC match on Tuesday. Third-ranked Vanguard plays Concordia in a 3:30 p.m. match.
