Lancers Oust Lions 6-3
Costa Mesa, Calif – Matching a pair of NAIA top ten teams provided a competitive day at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center. Unfortunately for host Vanguard University, the No. 6-ranked Lions lost 6-3 to the No. 4-ranked California Baptist Lancers.
The Lions were in good shape after doubles play, winning the first and third doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Tino Brodar and Fredric Sandberg notched an 8-4 at No. 1, while Florian Lemke and Nils Iwdal captured the third match by the same score. However, Thomas Frank and Sandro Bucher dropped the No. 2 match to the Lancers by the score of 8-5.
The Lancers charged back in singles play, providing too much for the Lions to handle. Sandberg tallied VU’s only victory, 7-5, 6-2, in the No. 2 singles match, as CBU marched to wins in straight sets in all but one of the other five singles matches.
Vanguard is back in action on Saturday when the Lions host Fresno Pacific University in an 11:00 a.m. matchup.
