No. 9 Eagles Edge No. 6 Lions

Costa Mesa, Calif – The Vanguard Lions fell short today against ninth-ranked Concordia University. The sixth-ranked Lions were defeated 5-4 by the CUI Eagles, losing for the first time this season.

Vanguard took a 2-1 lead over the Eagles by winning two of three doubles matches to begin the Golden State Athletic Conference matup. VU’s Fredric Sandberg and Tino Brodar defeated their No. 1 singles opponent 8-5, while Sandro Bucher and Thomas Frank won their No. 2 doubles match by the same 8-5 score. Florian Lemke and Niles Iwdal dropped the No. 3 match 8-6.

The Eagles came back to win the singles war 4-2 to secure the 5-4 win in the match. VU’s wins came in the first and third singles matches with Lemke winning 6-3, 6-3, and Brodar outlasting Kareem Berdai 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

Vanguard slips to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in GSAC with the upset loss to the Eagles. The Lions are back in action on Thursday at Azusa Pacific University.
