VU Completes Win in Suspended Match with Redlands
Redlands, Calif – The Vanguard Lions finally completed a nonconference men’s tennis match with University of Redlands that had been postponed on February 7th and suspended on February 13th. Entering today’s continuation match with a 2-1 lead, the Lions won three of six singles matches earn a 5-4 decision over the Redlands Bulldogs.
Vanguard won two of three doubles matches on February 13th, taking an 8-5 victory in the No. 1 doubles contest and a 9-8 (3) in the No. 2 duel. Rain suspended the match after doubles play with VU holding a 2-1 lead over NCAA Division III 13th-ranked University of Redlands.
Resuming the match with singles play today, the Lions recorded the 5-4 win with victories in the first three singles matches. Fredric Sandberg (7-5, 6-4), Florian Lemke (6-2, 6-0), and Tino Brodar (7-5, 1-6, 6-1) posted wins for the Lions, with Brodar outlasting Aron Ouye in the match-deciding three-set victory.
Vanguard’s nonconference match with Hawaii Pacific tomorrow has been cancelled, giving the Lions a break in their schedule until next week when they host California Baptist on Tuesday.
