Ron ’90 and Michelle (Negron ’93, MA ’97) Bueno went to El Salvador with the zeal of anthropologists and the hearts of missionaries. Sixteen years later their innovative work in church-based community development has improved life for hundreds of thousands of the poorest people in that country.

Diana Avans, associate professor and chair of the department of kinesiology, has helped establish VU’s kinesiology program as one of the best in the region, with a newly revamped curriculum and a lab which is the envy of public universities.
