5K Run For Mercy

For the past five years, Vanguard University has hosted an annual 5K as part of Homecoming. This year the 5K has moved to Family Weekend in October. All funds raised go toward an alumni family in need. The first two races benefited alumni families with children battling incurable conditions.  The third run went toward an alumnus who met his wife here, only to be widowed less than a decade later with two young daughters.  The last recipient was an alumnus, who also served in the military, and is fighting an incurable disease. We are now proud to support our current recipient, Noel (Taylor ’07) Miller who is battling cancer.

Noel’s Story

This Vanguard alumna has been fighting an aggressive cancer that spread throughout her body. She endured radiation, chemotherapy treatments, and suffered several cerebral hemorrhages, which resulted in multiple brain surgeries. Through medical advances and prayer, Noel has survived, but severe complications have brought about a new difficult reality. Noel’s entire family has joined together in taking care of Noel and their daughter, Reese. Now at home, there are many needs that the family has, and medical bills that continually grow. We ask that you would support the Miller family by participating in Family Weekend and joining us at the 5K Run for Mercy.
