Clinical Psychology

Application Documents

  • References: Download the paper version of the Graduate Psychology Reference. Each applicant is required to secure three references: one from a professor with whom you took classes within your major, another from a professional reference, and the third one from someone who can speak knowledgeably about you. Both reference form and a letter must be submitted. These should not be completed by someone who is a relative or friend.
  • Statement of Purpose (250 words): Write a detailed statement of purpose describing reasons for pursuing graduate education in Clinical Psychology.
  • Autobiographical Statement (500 words): Write a statement addressing the ways in which your life experiences have influenced and shaped you to be the person you are today.
  • Statement of Faith (250 words): Write a statement which includes your personal faith development and journey and how your faith impacts your decision to apply for this program.
  • Resume/Curriculum Vitae: Provide a detailed resume or curriculum vitae listing all employment, experience, education, training, etc.

Prerequiste Courses

Required prerequisite courses:

  • Introduction to Statistics
  • Psychopathology or Abnormal Psychology
  • Developmental Psychology or Human Development
  • Counseling Theories or Theories of Personality

It is required that all prerequisite courses have been completed within the last seven years with a grade of B- or better. For assistance with questions regarding prerequisite requirements or whether any exceptions would apply, please email gradadmissions@vanguard.edu.

education

  • References: Download the paper version of the Graduate Education Reference (pdf)*. Each applicant is required to secure three references as part of the application process. One of these should be from a professor with whom you took classes in your field of study; two others should be professional references.
  • Personal Statement (250 words): Write a statement of purpose describing your reasons for applying to VU’s Graduate Program in Education. Discuss professional goals and aspirations, future plans as a result of furthering your education in this graduate program, the relationship between your professional goals and your Christian faith, and any additional information concerning your preparation for graduate study.
  • CBEST Verification: Please present an original 3″ X 4″ transcript card (for credential applicants only).

leadership studies

  • References: Download the paper version of the Reference Form. A form and letter must be submitted by both a pastoral and academic reference to complete your application.
  • Personal Statement (3-5 pages): Write a detailed statement of purpose which describes your reasons, including vocational reasons, for pursuing a graduate degree in Religion at Vanguard. Also, describe how your Christian faith is related to your desire to pursue the Master of Arts in Leadership Studies.
  • Resume/Curriculum Vitae: Please provide a detailed resume or curriculum vitae listing all employment, experience, education, training, etc.

Nursing: rn to bsn

  • Statement of Purpose: A two-page typed document stating your purpose for pursuing higher education in nursing, your goals and aspirations in your nursing career, your nursing philosophy, and why you chose nursing as a profession.
  • Official transcript or diploma from your high school, or request an official copy of your GED.
  • Copy of Driver’s License
  • Copy of California Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • Copy of Current Certification in CPR

nursing: msn

  • References: Download the paper version of the Graduate Nursing Reference. Each applicant is required to secure two professional references as part of the application process (Vanguard Alumni only need one reference). A separate letter should accompany each reference form. These should be completed by professionals who are familiar with your work as a nurse and are not related to you.
  • Statement of Purpose (250 words): An explanation of your reasons, including your professional aspirations and personal sense of mission, for applying to Vanguard’s Master of Science in Nursing.
  • Resume: Please provide a detailed resume listing all employment, experience, education, training, etc.
  • Copy of California Registered Nursing (RN) License

Organizational Psychology

Application Documents

  • Two Professional References: Download the paper version of the Reference Form. References should be completed by professionals who are familiar with your work and are not related to you. You must submit both a completed reference form and letter for each reference.
  • Statement of Purpose (500 words): In a concise and articulate essay, describe your reasons, including vocational goals, for pursuing a graduate degree in Organizational Psychology at Vanguard.
  • Professional Resume: A detailed resume including all employment, training, and education experience.

Prerequisite Courses

Required prerequisite courses:

  • Introduction to Statistics- Grade of "B" or better
  • Introduction to Psychology
  • Social Psychology
  • One other relevant course (Human Resources, Research Methods, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, etc.)
