Vanguard University’s Women’s Basketball Team Wins GSAC Championship

A mighty roar shook the court on Tuesday, March 5, as the Vanguard University Lions claimed the Golden State Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.

With a final score of 63-57, the Vanguard women’s basketball team defeated the Westmont Warriors. Having lost to this team twice before, the Lions had a score to settle. A great battle ensued from the 5:00 p.m. starting time at Concordia University’s gym.

Gold pride filled the stands as students and other VU supporters created a sea of blue and gold. Riding the rollercoaster of an intense game, fans yelled, sighed, waved their VU Lions towels and shouted for justice at referees. With Fox College Sports covering the event, there was no lack of enthusiasm in the student section.

Hungry for victory, the Lions fought from behind, persevered through a neck-and-neck battle and pushed to lead. Ranked No. 8 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the team will travel to Frankfurt, Ky., for the 2012-13 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship, which begins Wednesday, March 13.
