Vanguard University Dedicates Theater Stage to Orange County Leaders, Ed and Dixie Arnold

Costa Mesa, CA, September 4, 2014 – The Vanguard University department of theatre arts dedicates its Lyceum Theater stage to Orange County community leaders and Vanguard University supporters, Ed and Dixie Arnold. The dedication of the Ed and Dixie Arnold Stage will take place at the Theatre Gala, Friday, September 19th on the campus of Vanguard University.

With a 60-year career in broadcasting, Ed Arnold is best known for his years as a sportscaster at KABC-TV Eyewitness News and KTLA-TV Sports. Also a retired Marine Corps veteran, Arnold also recently retired from broadcasting. Together with his wife Dixie Arnold, the couple has been named top supporters to prominent Orange County charities throughout the years, including Vanguard University’s acclaimed department of theatre arts. Dixie Arnold, in her 50th year in education, joined the Vanguard University faculty twelve years ago, where she now serves as chair of the department of liberal studies.

“When Dixie joined the Vanguard University faculty, we thought it would be a good idea to support as many campus activities as we could,” says Ed. “We quickly discovered the campus’s Lyceum Theater, and what we called ‘Orange County’s hidden treasure,’ added Dixie. “We are dedicated to supporting the exceptional plays performed by talented theatre students from this award-winning department.”

The ¾ thrust Ed and Dixie Arnold Stage will bring a new vibrancy on the campus of Vanguard University, to a stage where theatre majors and future actors, and producers, directors spend countless hours shaping their future careers. The department of theatre arts has a reputation for rigorous academics, proven by its own productions. The department’s National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) accreditation validates the high standards of excellence, and ongoing invitations to the western region Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival proves stellar production value. Graduates of the program go on to work professionally on stage, film and television, including Emily Rose ‘03, star of SyFy’s Haven, and Kristina Kuzmic ’01 from Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network.

“We so appreciate the way they have championed our students who make themselves vulnerable every time they get on that stage,” said Sue Berkompas, chair of the department of theatre arts. “That is why it is so appropriate to name the stage after this amazing couple who give so much of themselves. Ed and Dixie Arnold have been pillars in our theatre community for years, and will forever be part of our legacy!”
